China
How to Apply
Eligibility: Students must have completed the ninth grade. Although some experience in Chinese is preferred, beginners are encouraged to apply.
Preference is for students able to demonstrate that they are in at least their third consecutive year in a school (or combination of schools) located in the United States.
Cost:
The fee of $6695 includes airfare, transportation abroad, tuition, all meals and lodging, books, and entrance fees for group activities. Expenses not included in the fee are: passport, transportation immediately prior to and after the program, and personal expenses such as telephone calls and spending money. Costs are based on the exchange rate effective September 1. Prices are subject to equitable adjustment should there be a significant change in the rate of exchange or in the airfare prior to the start of the program.
Applications: All candidates must submit an application, official transcript, and teacher recommendations. Since the number of candidates for these programs exceeds the available spaces, early applications are recommended; in fact, some are received in early fall. Last minute applicants, if accepted, will be placed in classes in accordance with availability. A limited amount of need-based financial aid is allocated for each program.
For applications, please contact the Office of Choate Rosemary Hall Summer Programs Abroad at 203-697-2365 or write this office at 333 Christian Street, Wallingford, CT 06492. Acceptance is on a rolling admissions basis. Candidates must be of high school age and have favorable academic records and recommendations.
The Summer 2008 program is organized, led and directed by Dr. Carol S. Chen-Lin, Choate Rosemary Hall faculty member and experienced teacher of Chinese. Dr. Chen-Lin reserves the right to adjust the itinerary in accordance with travel conditions.
