Colegio típico español

Spain

Academics

A placement exam determines the class level at which students are placed: elementary for those needing review, intermediate for those wishing to master the grammar of the middle years, and advanced for those wishing to get ready for an Advanced Placement course.

Historia del arte español

Three classes make up the academic portion of the day, which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon during the week: the first: Spanish History and Culture; the second: The History of Spanish Art and Architecture, presented through slides; the third: an appropriate level of grammar or introduction to literature.

Classes are conducted in Spanish, and all students have at least two native Spanish instructors. After classes, students share lunch, the main meal, with their hosts. Afternoons offer ample time for leisure activities, while leaving time to prepare the next day's assignments. The traditional late Spanish supper brings the day to a close.

Historia y cultura de España

Students who demonstrate progress and proficiency in the major language skills on a daily basis and in the examinations at the end of the home-stay may be eligible for higher placement at their home schools. Choate Rosemary Hall students have the opportunity to accelerate as much as a year in the fall, as determined by the quality of their work in the summer program classes and on their written examinations. A written report will be sent to the student's school upon request and is always sent to parents.
